John Schmiechen is a popular painter in oils, specializing in Philadelphia Cityscapes.  His works are representational and are influenced by impressionist and post-impressionist painters. He paints with an impasto (thick paint) technique with textured brush and knife strokes.  He is known for his vivid and sometimes arbitrary use of color.
